Culture-driven storytelling across film, art, and concept. A creative hub by Tony Altamirano.
Welcome to Ancient Mariner Pictures
I am Tony Altamirano—a Peruvian-born, Portland-based filmmaker, musician, and multidisciplinary artist. As a first-generation immigrant, my work is a search for the architecture of belonging. I look for the cinematic truth that lingers in the quiet, overlooked spaces—the places where the light hits the dust and a history reveals itself.
My practice is a dialogue between the digital horizon and the analog soul. It is a collision of worlds where AI-integrated video and cinematic concepts meet the honest grit of Super 8 film, hand-cut collage, and puppetry. Guided by a musician’s sense of rhythm, I build immersive worlds from the heartbeat up.
I am currently in pre-production on The Things the Dust Remembers, a short film supported by the Oregon Film “Share Your Story” grant.
